Coach's Grocery Game Plan
The largest part of your monthly budget is probably your rent or mortgage. The
next biggest item is groceries. I want to share with you a few simple techniques
to save 50% or more every time you go grocery shopping. I love to come home and
show Mrs. Coach how much I saved. My highest in one shopping was 72%.
(from the Coach)
Here are the two most important rules.
Timing
Different items go on sale at different times of the year. Matching
coupons to items that are on sale produces the greatest savings
Example: Progressive Soup is on a 10 for $10 sale at King Soopers.
You have a coupon you've saved that offers $.50 off. Since King Soopers doubles the value
of your coupon , you can get 1 can of Progresso Soup for FREE! You
can also buy 10 cans for $9. If Progresso Soup sells for $2.29 per can. You have
saved $13.90 or 60% on 10 cans. Which leads to....
Stockpiling
The greatest way to save on your monthly grocery bill is stockpiling or storage.
Most items can be safely stored for a year or more. Food items show expiration
dates. When I see items like can goods, napkins, light bulbs, razor blades,
deodorant, etc., I stock up. The key is to be patient and when your favorite
things go on a great sale buy enough for 3 to six months. Why? because it might
take that long to cycle around again.
Example: Albertson's every so often has a great 10 or 20 for $10 sale. I found
napkins regular priced at 250 napkins for $2.89 going for 10 for $10. I bought
enough for the year at a savings of 65%.

Nick's Grocery Tips
Saving
money is a philosophy...a lifestyle. If you exercise for a half hour every two
weeks, you won't see results.
Stock
up! If you're new to stocking up, your grocery bills will be larger at
first...but they'll gradually get smaller. Just make sure you're
stocking up on things that you will actually consume.
Buy
a chest freezer, for meats, bread, vegetables, ice cream...you should NEVER have
to pay retail for meats, vegetables, and ice cream. Put the freezer in the
basement, if you can, so it doesn't have to work so hard.
If
you like your Doritos, call Frito-Lay and tell 'em. They'll probably send you a
couple coupons for more.
When
you shop, stick to your list. Don't feel obligated to walk down every
aisle...it could lead to impulse purchases.
If
something is on sale ten for ten dollars, you're not required to buy ten (unless
specified).
Watch
out for "buy one get one free." They usually jack up the first item to the
highest retail price possible. It's often a good deal, but sometimes 2 for 4
dollars at another store is better.
If
you like to cherry pick at 2 or 3 different stores, make sure the trip is worth
it. Don't waste gas on one little tube of toothpaste...unless you're stocking
up on ten little tubes!
Walgreens
likes to print their own coupons for some reason. These are NOT manufacturers
coupons, so feel free to combine your coupons with theirs.
Don't
shop for groceries when you're hungry!
